TagorePrize 2018

    THE FIRST PRIZE of the Rabindranath Tagore Literary Prize for the year 2018. is awarded to “One Hundred Poems of Kabir” by Kabir, translated from Hindi into English by Rabindranath Tagore.

     Kabir was posthumously awarded for his outstanding collection of poetry proving that “a poet never dies, neither does his poetry”. Five centuries after Kabir had left us, his poetry is still very alive and it will live forever.

    Everyone was a winner in this evening of joy and acknowledgment of Tagore and his profound influence on literature, poetry, education and the world. By choosing Kabir as the winner of TagorePrize 2018. we want to show that he is not in direct competition with the living authors and thus, for us, ALL shortlisted authors are WINNERS. A Tagore’s statuette, a certificate of contribution to literature and a check in the amount of US $500 was given to all shortlisted authors. This makes TagorePrize the first literary prize in the world awarding shortlisted authors, emphasizing humanitarian character of the event with the intent for social and cultural impact. 

      The winner of the prize received US $10 000, a Rabindranath Tagore’s statuette, and certificate of contribution to literature and betterment of the world. 

To honor Kabir and his legacy the first prize of US $10 000 will be distributed in three ways:

1. printing 10 000 books of “One Hundred Poems of Kabir” translated from Hindi into English by Rabindranath Tagore, donating to 10 000 schools reaching millions of children in our bid of revival of poetry in India. Our future goal is to cover 100 000 schools.

2. one lakh (approximately US $1500) to Visva Bharati (Santiniketan) University, founded by Tagore, for their contribution to education.

3. one lakh to Kailash Satyarthi Children’s Foundation founded by the Nobel Peace Laureate, Mr. Kailash Satyarthi, for their contribution to the Global awareness against children exploitation.

     

The first awards ceremony was held on April 11th, 2018. on the premises of India International Center, IIC in New Delhi, India. The event was an evening full of excitement, celebrating the poetry, literature, and humanity.
